Brewing with the Spirit:  A Monastic Craft Beer Experience @ St. Benedict's Brew Works

Want to learn about the rich history of beer and its connections to monasteries? What about sampling and even brewing a batch of craft brew? St. Benedict’s Brew Works is a craft brewery on the grounds of the Sisters of St. Benedict and is offering a series of brewing retreats. Brewers and owners, Vince Luecke and Andy Hedinger, will share the history of beer and lead the group through reflections on gospel parables about grain, earth, yeast and water. Participants will sample beers, work to understand beer terminology and, of course, make a batch of craft beer designed by the group.

Presenters: Vince Luecke holds a master’s degree in Catholic Thought and Life from Saint Meinrad School of Theology. He works as the editor of two newspapers and is co-owner of St. Benedict’s Brew Works. Andy Hedinger holds a law degree from Indiana University’s Mauer School of Law. He practices law full time and is a co-owner of St. Benedict’s Brew Works. He and his family also own and operate Monkey Hollow Winery and Distillery near St. Meinrad.

Time: Registration is at 6:00 p.m. (ET) Friday at Kordes Hall. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Brew Works and ends at 7:00 p.m. Saturday.

Cost: $235 (one overnight, meals, and all amenities; $175 for commuters (meals and all amenities).
