Praying the Scriptures

January 14, 2012

This retreat provides a deepening understanding of Lectio Divina as a way of praying the scriptures.

  • Lectio Divina is the prayerful reading of the Bible, the book Christians believe to be divinely inspired.
  • The four moments of the prayer are explored as expressions of the four senses of scripture: the literal, moral, allegorical, and unitive senses.
  • The monastic form of Lectio Divina is used for both group and individual prayer.
  • A prerequisite for this retreat is some understanding of Lectio Divina as a way of praying.
  • The workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Eastern time. Cost is $65, including lunch. Registration due January 11.
  • Presenter: Sister Maria Tasto, OSB, is a spiritual director, a certified counselor, has advanced degrees in theology and English, and was a faculty member of Contemplative Outreach. Maria is a certified presenter of Lectio Divina and Centering Prayer.
