Sister Anna Mae Schepers, 88, of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at the monastery.

Sister Anna Mae, formerly known as Sister Mary Conrad, was born February 17, 1923, in Dubois, Indiana, the seventh of nine children of George and Theresia (Hasenour) Schepers. She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1954, and made her first profession of vows in 1956 and her final profession in 1959.

She is survived by two sisters, Esther Schepers of Jasper and Antoinette Scudiero of Winona, Minnesota; nieces and nephews; and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Clara Genovese, Veronica Seng, Loretta Schepers, Alice Louise Murrell, and Elizabeth Schepers; and her brother, Albert.

Sister Anna Mae was a teacher in Washington, Poseyville, Holy Redeemer and St. Joseph schools in Evansville and Haubstadt. She then provided supportive services at the monastery in areas of hospitality, as switchboard operator, and as monastery chauffer. She was a religious education teacher at Mariah Hill, Montgomery, and Vincennes and a special education tutor and receptionist at Benet Learning Center in Fort Wayne. Sister Anna Mae also did needlework and designed and pieced together quilt tops.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand.
