Sister Catherine Marie Duenne

How old were you when you became a Sister of St. Benedict?

I was 23 years old.

What made you decide to enter the monastery?

I felt God calling me. It was a call so great, I couldn't say no. The community, prayer, and lifestyle felt right for me.

What is your current ministry?

I am a music teacher (pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade) at Notre Dame Academy in Louisville, Kentucky.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in a small town — Charleston, Missouri.

Do you have any brothers or sisters? Are any of your family members sisters also?

Yes, have 3 brothers. Two are older than me and one is a twin brother! Two of my great aunts became sisters, and one of my cousins is a priest.

What do you like the most about being a sister?

I like living in community. At times, it can be challenging, but also very growthful. I learn so much from the other sisters. I gain from their wisdom and experience. There is great love and respect for one another.
