Saturday Morning at the Dome

February 20, 2010

Topic: Dance of Universal Peace

The Dances of Universal Peace are simple, meditative circle dances that use sacred phrases, music, and movements from many cultures and traditions to touch the spiritual within persons. According to work begun by Samuel L. Lewis in the 1960s, circle dances promote understanding, peace, integration, and connection within individuals and groups worldwide. No prior experience is necessary for this workshop. Simple movements, words, and melodies from different cultures and religions around the world will be taught for each dance, creating a shared experience of unity, peace, and connection to others and to Spirit.

Presenter: Lezlie Ward leads a monthly Dance of Universal Peace in Evansville, Indiana. She holds a master’s degree in counseling and is a nationally registered Yoga instructor and a Reiki master. Retreat: Dining in the Kingdom of God: Luke’s Gospel and Hospitality

March 5-6, 2010

6:30 p.m. check-in time. Retreat begins at 7 p.m. Friday and ends at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. (Program held at Kordes Center)
Today the Eucharist is often experienced in isolation from the rest of the Gospel story, connected only with the Last Supper and not to its broader context in Jesus’ life and ministry. The Eucharist can also become disconnected from our daily lives. We fail to see the relationship between the Eucharist at the altar and the “eucharist” at the table in the home. We frequently take little time for that most important ritual of the “common meal” that gives life to our spirits as well as food to our bodies. Using the concept of hospitality from St. Luke’s Gospel, this retreat will explore the gathering of family or friends around a meal at the family table as an extension of the Eucharist. Participants will experience the ritual of a common meal, “dining in the kingdom of God.” Presenter: Sister Barbara C. Schmitz, OSB, is a gift officer in Mission Advancement for the Sisters of St. Benedict. She holds graduate degrees in education and spirituality as well as internships in spiritual direction and contemplative dialogue. She has held leadership positions in diocesan, seminary, and retreat ministries.

Cost $130 per person for double occupancy, $150 for a private room, $80 for a commuter.

Includes all applicable taxes.

She has given retreats and workshops in Benedictine spirituality throughout North America and is currently working in the Spirituality Ministry of the Ferdinand Benedictines.

Saturday Morning at the Dome

Topic: Living in the Present Moment

Spiritual masters throughout the ages have pointed to the need to live in the present moment in order to live a balanced, healthy life. How present are you? Many of us spend much of our time and energy reliving the past or anticipating the future. In doing so, we miss the gift that God gives us in the present. Come and spend time in the “here and now” and learn some simple ways to be more present in your daily life.
