History

The group that eventually became Stillpoint began in 1981 as a dance band to provide entertainment for the sisters. Called The Combo, they began with nine members, all of whom were Ferdinand Benedictines.

As The Combo, the music group expanded to performing for nursing homes and parish functions. They then started playing at functions with which our sisters had some connection or which served as a vehicle to further the mission of the Sisters of St. Benedict.

The group became Stillpoint with their first recording, "Sounds of Peace," in 1988. Their second recording, "Open My Life to Your Song," was recorded in 1996. Their third recording, "Time Made Holy," was released in June 2000. The ensemble continues to perform as The Combo when a dance-band type of entertainment is wanted.

As Stillpoint, these Benedictines record and perform in concert original compositions written by sisters in community.

Stillpoint As a Ministry

The sisters see Stillpoint and The Combo as a ministry to those who attend their performances, as a way to support sisters working in the wider civic community, as a way to further the mission of the Sisters of St. Benedict, and as a way to share their faith and community life with the larger civic community.

The individual members of Stillpoint minister to the wider civic community as music ministers, liturgists, teachers, a principal, a social worker, a vocation director, a director of adult formation, and a counselor. They minister to children, adults, the homeless, the searching, those who are celebrating, those who are struggling, those who are serving, and those who are grieving.
