Stations of the Cross The Stations of the Cross, a series of 14 crosses and images, represent events in the Passion and Death of Christ. The series as a whole recalls the route along which Christ was taken to Calvary. Seven of the events represented (the first, second, eighth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, and fourteenth) are described in one or more of the Gospels, and the others are traditional. Found along the walls of every Catholic church, the Stations of the Cross are a popular devotion. An outdoor Way of the Cross was erected on the south campus of the monastery grounds in 1946. Individual families donated funds for the building of the Stations and the wayside shrine (large crucifix). Memorial plaques can be seen on each station.
