Praying with the Saints Saints are a great part of the Christian tradition. If all believers are part of the Body of Christ, then our connection to each other does not end after death. Just as we might ask a friend to pray for us when we are going through a difficult time, so we can ask saints to pray for us. Many Christians are named for particular saints, and at Confirmation, Catholics choose a patron saint to be their protector and guide. In religious life, many sisters also take on a saint’s name when they enter novitiate or make first profession. These patrons are models for us on the journey of life. As we learn about their lives, we seek to emulate their courage and strength. As we read their writings, we are led to love God as they did. As we imitate their ways of prayer, we are drawn deeper into the mystery of God’s endless mercy and care. The Benedictine tradition has been blessed with many saints. Some of these include:
