Journaling

Journaling and other forms of creative writing can be wonderful tools for giving shape to the prayer emerging from one's heart. Journaling in particular allows you to look at your own flow of thoughts and to see what God might be saying through them.

Suggestions:

It sometimes helps to have a regular place and time for journaling. Lighting a candle or choosing some appropriate background music can create a sense of sacred space.

Begin by asking the Holy Spirit for guidance. Then consider: What is your current situation? Where was God in your day? Give thanks for God's presence. End on a note of praise.

Write a dialogue between you and God. What do you think God would say to you? How do you respond?

You might also journal in response to an earlier experience of prayer. Consider using these reflection questions.
