Ministries of the Ferdinand Benedictine Sisters

What do the sisters do?
The Benedictine tradition is known for its balance of ora et labora, or prayer and work. Whether at the monastery or out on mission, sisters spend part of each day in prayer, both communal and private, and in some area of ministry. Thus this religious community could be called a contemplative–active monastery.

While traditionally known as teachers, today the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand can be found in a variety of ministry roles, from parish ministry to veterinary medicine.

Where do the sisters work?
The Sisters of St. Benedict minister in a number of towns and cities in Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Maryland, as well as in Italy, and Peru. Most Ferdinand Benedictines live and work within about an hour of the monastery, so they can come “home” regularly.
